“Art will disappear as life becomes more balanced. We will no longer need paintings and sculptures, because we will live in the midst of realized art.” Mondrian
The Saint-Ouen station passenger building extends over an area of 36m by 28m and brings together the RATP (L14) and SNCF (RER C) areas. The cover, inspired by Mondrian's paintings, is made up of prefabricated panels with glass blocks resting on a grid of concrete beams. The glass blocks refer to François Hennebique's "translucent concrete". The beam mesh is carried by steel posts incorporating smoke extraction openings.
The facade is made up of glazed windows on three sides. The glass elements, 4m high, are enclosed on steel stiffeners embedded at the foot on a 2m frame.
The direct exit, a 14m by 7m kiosk, covering the vertical circulations directly linking the forecourt to the RER C line, takes up the design of the Voyageur Building.
